THE WALL

Who is on the Wall, nicknames

To find out a little bit about who posts on the Wall check out the who’s who post in the Notes on the Wall. Every few months we have has a roll call where people can say who they are and give any details they want. In the next few months we will have another roll call but the document will be left open for anyone new to add their names to the post if they want.

Many of the people posting on the Wall use nicknames for one reason or another. But it is a ‘real people’ discussion board. Please refer to people by their Wall names and not by their real names if you know them.

Decorum

Please treat the other people on the Wall with respect, even if you strongly disagree with them. It is great to hear you had “a f*cking good time” at the Store but not that you think someone on the Wall is a “stupid little f*cker”. Comments derogatory to race, creed, gender, sexual orientation or preference in football teams are not welcome.

Remember that it might only take a few seconds to write a post but it stays on view forever.

If you have any strong objections to posts e-mail the Webmaster at jonathan@comedystoreregulars.com

How to do tricks with text

The usual html codes apply. Here is a short reminder.

Help with colour names and codes is here .

How to post a picture

Mac/WebTV/etc. warning - if you find that your lines of text are truncated when you post on the Wall you may find it impossible to post links or pictures because the Wall splits the code into two lines. Sorry about that but at present nothing can be done.

Okay, to post a picture you need to upload it to somewhere on the internet. If you don’t know how to do that you then unfortunately it is too complex to mention here. But most people get some free webspace with their internet service provider (the company you pay to access the internet.. If you access the internet from work you are probably stuck. If there is something you really need to post a picture contact Jonathan, aka the Webmaster, and he’ll see what can be done.

Right, let’s assume you’ve uploaded a .gif or .jpg file and it is now sitting at a location like http://www.yourdomain.com/folder/yourpicture.jpg. To post the picture on the Wall include the following in your post.

Make sure you include the “http://” bit or it won’t work.

Check to see if you see the picture correctly when you preview your post. If you can’t see it in the preview it won’t appear on the Wall.

Warning - Please avoid posting a picture from somewhere else on the internet. This is known as “leeching”. Many people have limits on the amount of internet traffic their site can have, or even pay by the byte downloaded. Posting someone else’s picture could cost them money. If you want to post someone else’s picture save it and copy it to your own webspace. It might be a better idea just to post a link to the photo.

How to post a link

To post a link to another site or a picture use the following code in your post. You should include the quotation marks and the ‘http://’ bit.

or for a picture

When you preview the text you should see the link text underlined and in a different colour. You should check you’ve got it correct by opening the link in another window (this is an option you get with a right hand mouse click in Windows. If someone can let me know what is needed for other systems please let me know and I’ll include it in the next update of the FAQ.

How to edit your post

You can’t! We are all in the same boat so don’t worry about the odd spelling mistake. But do make sure any links or pictures are correctly done at the preview stage. If you are in a heated debate do remember that what you write is permanent and is not their just in the heat of the moment.

If you have a real problem with something you’ve posted please contact the Webmaster . But this is for emergencies only.

PLAYERS AND REGULARS QUESTIONS

Do the Comedy Store Players read or post on the Wall?

The “Jim”, “Andy” and “RichardV” on the Wall are Jim Sweeney, Andy Smart and Richard Vranch. Neil Mullarkey has posted on the odd occasion. Whether or not any of the other Players read the Wall is a matter of fevered rumour and gossip.

How can I contact the Players?

You are strongly recommended to check out the Players comedystoreplayers.com site or the Players individual site and scour them for e-mail addresses.

Alternatively you can e-mail me at jonathan@comedystoreregulars.com and I’ll forward them to Jim Sweeney.

You can post a message on the Wall but remember it might not be seen by the Player or guest for whom it is intended. Please include an e-mail address with your post so people have the option of contacting you directly.

What is the link between the Wall, the Comedy Store Players and the comedystoreregulars?

For the first couple of years the Wall was the forum on the Comedy Store Players comedystoreplayers.com website. Shortly afterwards a handful of fans put together the “Comedy Store Regulars” comedystoreregulars.com website as a cheeky tribute. It is also a place for us to post pictures of our visits to the Store and Players shows on tour.

The Wall is a place to chat about the Players and their shows. But it also is a place where fans can talk about anything. So it seemed to make sense to relocate the Wall on comedystoreregulars.com site. It is not any kind of formal arrangement but if anything is going to be “official” this is it.

Who are the Comedy Store Regulars?

Originally Jonathan put the site together and he, Nightingale, Lizzlie, T.M.O, Strumpet, Fallen Angel and Jenny chipped in with the registration fee for the comedystoreregulars.com site. We picked seven names just because that matched the number of Players and when the site started it was, as has been mentioned, a cheeky tribute and it reflected those of us who where most often at the Store. A couple of years later Mr Honest replaced Strumpet. Nowadays, people like Kim, Hairbear, Lu, t'other Liz, Lyn and Stephen are at the Store as much as anybody. So to make things easy there isn't a set group of people who are the "Regulars" for the comedystoreregulars.com website, though we are happy to be known as the regulars at the Comedy Store Players shows!

What is the Guest List?

It is a page for photos of people who have been to the Comedy Store Players shows or who are posters on the Wall. So if you would like to add your picture to our Guest List please send me a recent photo by e-mail jonathan@comedystoreregulars.com.

STORE QUESTIONS

How can I get tickets for the Players’ shows?

Check out the comedystoreplayers.com site for details about Store shows and tour shows. They have good details of the different purchase options.

No, come on, haven’t you got anything useful to say?

Okay, a few tips from years of experience shivering in all weathers outside the Store.

Do you need to buy in advance?

If you want to be sure of getting in, yes. Shows do sell out. The Comedy Store keep about one hundred tickets in reserve to sell on the door on a first come first served basis.

That said, there are often tickets available so if you want to come along on the off-chance do give it a try, you’ll often be lucky, right up to show time at 20:00.

What are the best ways of getting tickets in advance

If you buy at the Comedy Store box office (open 18:30 to 21:00 Tuesday-Sunday) you pay face value for the ticket with no extra charges. Tickets are usually available for at least a month in advance.

Remember, advance tickets may sell out but there still will be about a hundred tickets on the door for first come first served.

I’ve got tickets, do I have to queue?

Yes, if you are there before doors open at 18:30. The queue outside the Comedy Store is for people with tickets, people collecting pre-ordered tickets and people wanting to buy tickets on the door. If it is busy the Comedy Store front of house staff will call those people with tickets forward when doors open, but not before.

When do the shows start and how long do they last

The shows start at 20:00. There is a 15 minute interval around 21:00 and the second half finishes at 22:00.

What can you do between doors at 18:30 and the start of the show

There is the bar, drinks are cheaper up to 19:30. There is also a diner where you can get food before the show and during the interval. The diner serves burgers, kebabs, potato wedges, chocolate brownies and the like at reasonable prices. You need to go to the diner, order your food, take a ticket with a number on it and then return to the diner about 5-8 minutes later to hear your ticket number called out when the food is ready.

There are a small number of tables near the diner counter but you may prefer to take the food back to your seat and eat it there.

Around the walls of the Store are newspaper clippings from the Store’s history, many with articles on the Players, they are worth a read.

If you are really bored you could come down near the stage and see if any of the Regulars are there and say “hi!” ;o). There’s usually at least some of us there on a Sunday.

Are seats reserved, do I have to sit in a particular place

No, it is all unreserved seating. Sit where you like, except the four chars around the keyboard near the stage, they are for the Players. It may sound obvious but I once saw a couple of people sit there!

One thing to note, the (not particularly wide!) seats are arranged in simple rows. Don’t expect the “groups of chairs dotted round tables” cabaret look.

Will I get picked on, should I sit at the back.

There is the occasional bit of good-natured ribbing but it is not like stand-up where some acts make fun of the audience so don’t worry! In equal measure heckling - as the Players say at the start of the show - doesn’t work. Do you wonder why? Well, one of your humble FAQ-writer’s theories is that in stand-up the comedian is often talking to the audience. In improvisation the performers are somewhere else - on a desert island, in a supermarket - whatever. When they are “being” in these other places there isn’t an audience there, so it makes no sense for the audience to say something. The exception that proves the rule is when doing the film and theatre style game and the style is pantomime. Pantomime involves the audience, you should probably get ready to join in a song!

Should I post on the Wall

Yes please! It is good to here from new people.

Can I write a review

Please do, people who can’t get to the show love to read them.
